Two SVS Ultra Subs

Pushed by 2000 watts from a new Crown K2 amp, these are incredible!

Do NOT do this! Jig saws don't work like a router and I never took the plunge.  Did second one freehand and it worked much better.

Parts are finished, ready for assembly after applying edge veneer, stain and polyurethane.  It's critical to have the spacers cut the same length and square.  Use a fixtured cut-off saw.

Assembled, ready to go!  Notice the felt applied to the inside and 1/2" on the bottom of each ring.  No wood-to-sub contact.  Ended up with nice, snug fits. Here's a closeup of the center section that spaces and supports the stack. Detail of the upper ring.  There are 4 1/4-20  machine screws that are threaded through inserts and push the upper spacers against the ceiling to lightly compress and stabilize the pair.

Results?

I was not overwhelmed when I went from single to dual Ultras with the Samson S1000 amp (500 watts/Ultra).  While SPL's were great and much more than I needed, the impact that I had with my single and an old 600 watt amp was missing. I upgraded to the Crown K2 amp, supplying 1000 watts to each of the two Ultras and got it back - in spades!

Even though I had them close side-by-side, stacking them seemed to give a cleaner audio image.  Besides, it LOOKS COOL!!

Bear in mind that these are just my impressions, and are contrary to advice from more experienced people.  I offer no assurance that I really heard what I think I heard or that I did not have anything else goofed up, so YMMV!
